TERVUREN – Over half of the kids at Tervuren’s nursery schools don’t speak Dutch at all when they first step through the gates. This highlights just how attractive leafy Tervuren’s schools are among the town’s 44% non-Belgians. And that’s despite stiff competition from the British School of Brussels, International Montessori, Courtyard, ISF Tervuren, not to mention the European schools and the Deutsche Schule.
Tervuren’s excellent public schools offer a golden opportunity for kids to master Dutch alongside their home languages—a perk not lost on the town’s diverse families. A full 409, or 52%, of the town’s 787 nursery school children did not speak Dutch at home in 2023-24. The rest speak Dutch with both or just one parent.
On top of the world-class education, Tervuren schools give your kids friends who live round the corner. Another benefit of going local is giving a pass to more stressful morning car rides to Brussels. Now is the moment to act: school pre-registration for children born in 2023 or earlier is officially underway. And it’s a must-do step to get your child into one of these sought-after institutions.
Tervuren’s Dutch-speaking primary and nursery schools—alongside Heilig-Hartcollege and GBS Letterbijter in Wezembeek-Oppem—have flung open their online pre-registration portals, running until Monday, 18 March 2025, at 12:00 noon. This pre-registration drill applies to Tervuren’s communal schools—GBS Tervuren, GBS Moorsel, and GBS Vossem—plus Mariaschool, Sint-Annaschool, KATtensprong, and Steinerschool Kristoffel.
Securing a spot starts at the Dutch-only website https://tervuren.aanmelden.in. If you struggle with Dutch then here’s the same info in, via Google Translate, in العربية, 汉语, English, Français, Deutsch, Español, Cymraeg, and even Esperanto and more. For tips, schooling and parenting advice from friendly internationals definitely try out the iMums Tervuren Facebook group — yes, daddies can join too!
“Pay attention: pre-registration isn’t the same as enrollment,” cautions Tervuren town hall. “It’s your way of signaling which school—or schools—you’d like your child to join.” Mark your calendars for 24 April 2025, when you’ll receive an email revealing the outcome of your application, complete with instructions to finalize enrollment at the school where your child lands a place.
Once that spot is secured, formal enrollment kicks off from Monday, 28 April to Monday, 19 May 2025. A heads-up: only details on the official Dutch-only website at https://tervuren.aanmelden.in are verified by authorities. So stick to the source for the real scoop.

Planning to switch schools starting 1 September 2025? You’ve also got until that same 18 March, 12:00 deadline to make your move—and it’s worth first checking how many spots are up for grabs at your preferred school.
For the very littlest ones born in December 2023, they typically start on 1 September 2026 even if registration is now.
Miss the 18 March 2025, noon cutoff? You’ll be out of luck until 27 May 2025 at 9:00 a.m., when you can try calling your top-choice school directly for any leftover spots—first come, first served. Don’t sleep on this one; spaces vanish fast.
