Shop Tervuren: win your money back

©Tervuren+. A new rule approved by Geyns’ Voor Tervuren party and the N-VA, states that vendors must use “the Dutch language in oral and written communication as the language of address because Tervuren belongs to the Dutch-language region.” Geyns clarifies that this does not require vendors to speak only Dutch with their multilingual customers.

Big news for shoppers in Tervuren! In a brand-new summer campaign, both locals and visitors could see their receipt refunded — that’s right, free shopping! And you don’t even have to be a resident to join in. The event runs from Friday 20 June 2025 until Sunday 22 June 2025 at 11:59pm.

Between 20 and 22 June, shoppers making purchases at participating Tervuren shops and hospitality venues will be in with a chance of getting their full spending amount reimbursed.

The only thing they need to do? Pop their receipt, along with contact details, into an envelope and drop it off before Monday 23 June at noon at one of the collection points, including the town hall De Zevenster.

“We’re freeing up extra funds to invest in our local economy,” mayor Thomas Geyns (Open VLD, Voor Tervuren) told Het Nieuwsblad. “It’s about encouraging consumer spending while rewarding the entrepreneurs who create jobs and prosperity,” the young liberal mayor added.

The campaign is organised by the local council of Tervuren with one clear goal: to support the local economy and give residents and visitors an extra reason to shop close to home.

How does it work? Envelopes will be randomly drawn from all those submitted until a total prize fund of €500 has been handed out. Lucky winners will receive gift vouchers equivalent to their purchase value, to be spent at participating local businesses.

The names of the winners will be announced during the week of 23 June by email and phone, and possibly also via the council’s website and social media.

All adult shoppers can enter the summer promotion, except staff members from the Local Economy Service and their family members.

The concept is simple: shop between 20 and 22 June at a local retailer, drop your receipt and contact details in an envelope, and submit it before Monday 23 June at noon in the town hall’s letterbox addressed to “Local Economy Service.”

Additional drop-off points are available in Moorsel (Sporthal De Steenberg), Duisburg (Pachthof Stroykens) and Vossem (Pastorie).

So what are you waiting for? Support your local traders, snap up a great deal — and you could be heading home with free gift vouchers! Good luck!
