Greunsjotters Tervuren at Child-Friendly Clubs Award

©Tervuren+ Greunsjotters Tervuren heeft zilver behaald in de prestigieuze verkiezing van Kindvriendelijke Club van het Jaar. Tegelijkertijd zet ook Tervuren sterk in op een inclusieve sportbeleving.

Greunsjotters Tervuren claimed silver in the prestigious Child-Friendly Club of the Year awards. At the same time, Tervuren is fully committed to an inclusive sports experience.

With a strong focus on young footballers and a warm, open club culture, Greunsjotters Vossem stood out among all football clubs in Flanders. “We proudly took second place as the most child-friendly club. We were also nominated as one of the best regional training clubs, where we also finished second,” the club said.

The club focuses not only on tactics and technique but also on team spirit, respect, and fair play. Every child, regardless of background, is made to feel welcome.

Another example of the club’s child-friendly approach is the annual summer camp, open to all boys and girls born between 2011 and 2021. Non-members are welcome too. Registration is available at: https://www.greunsjotters.be/zomerkamp

With that same inclusive spirit, Tervuren is promoting broad-based sports initiatives in the Vrijetijdsregio Druivenstreek, which includes Bertem, Hoeilaart, Huldenberg and Overijse. Their goals cover sports promotion, club support, shared infrastructure, and social inclusion.

One of the biggest challenges remains the multilingual environment: more than half of the children starting primary school in Tervuren speak a language other than Dutch at home. “This is one of the major challenges in using sport to bring people together,” said N-VA chairman Ralph Packet.

Following the publication of the Kompasnota Sport for the Druivenstreek Leisure Region, Packet developed a proposal to launch initiatives promoting language integration in sport. “That includes encouraging Dutch conversation and creating opportunities for children to practice speaking in sports clubs,” Packet said.
