Changing secondary school? Or pre-registering your child for the first year? The pre-registration deadline is fast-approaching on 25 April 2025 at 14:00. All Dutch-language secondary schools in Tervuren and Wezembeek-Oppem, but also Overijse and Leuven, operate under the centralised Flemish digital registration platform at aanmelden.school.
From Atheneum Tervuren, Heilig Hartcollege, and GITO Tervuren, to Sint-Martinuscollege Overijse and ZAVO Zaventem, parents have a wide selection to choose from. Schools in Leuven also remain highly popular due to their strong academic reputations as well as specialisation.
“Selecting more than one school significantly increases your chances of receiving a place,” authorities advise. The registration process is entirely online and generally applies to all children entering 1A (with a primary school certificate) or 1B (no certificate).

To register, parents need internet access, their child’s national register number, and a valid email address. An account must be created on the central platform at https://aanmelden.school before school preferences can be submitted. Confirmation emails are sent immediately – but be sure to check spam folders. And avoid the last-minute rush before the deadline at 14:00 on 25 April 2025 as heavy traffic could impact servers.
Importantly, the order in which parents register has no effect on the outcome. All applications are treated equally within the time-frame. After the deadline, a computer system randomly assigns places based on school preferences and availability, under the supervision of a bailiff.
Allocation results are sent via email on 15 May 2025. If your child doesn’t get a place in any selected school, he or she will be placed on waiting lists. If you miss the registration period, free enrollment opens on 20 May 2025 at 09:00. But places are always limited.
